V0.5 scope

What V0.5 actually includes

V0.5 is the first major BDA version target. It covers about half of the planned HTTYD 1 content and builds the base systems V1 will expand.

V0.5 in plain terms

V0.5 aims to explore about half of the mod's planned content relating to HTTYD 1. It is not half of the movie's content itself, but rather, half of the features we at Berk's Dragon Academy plan to implement into the mod based and sourced from the first movie.

The reason V0.5 matters is that it gives BDA its first complete base. It adds the first dragons, the first Hooligan villages, the first gear, the first passive mobs, and the main dragon systems. V1 builds on that same base instead of replacing it.

V0.5 is not a side experiment. It is the first version where the HTTYD Minecraft experience starts becoming playable.

The V0.5 dragon lineup

V0.5 starts with three dragons because those three can prove the main systems without bloating the first release target.

DragonWhy it is in V0.5
Night FuryThe rare, iconic, hardest tame. It carries the strongest HTTYD identity and tests the most careful taming behavior.
Deadly NadderA sharp, alert, territorial dragon that gives the lineup speed, danger, and stronger visual threat behavior.
GronckleA heavier and more forgiving dragon that gives players a more accessible entry into taming and riding.

The systems V0.5 needs to prove

The important part is not just that these features exist. It is that they connect into one loop.

You find a dragon, approach it, tame it, own it, care for it, level it, ride it, fight with it, breed it, hatch an egg, and raise the next adult dragon. That is the backbone V0.5 needs to prove.

SystemIncluded in V0.5
Wild dragon spawningSpecies-specific biome, altitude, group size, and rarity rules.
Wild dragon behaviorRoaming, perching, idle scanning, player detection, hostile mob combat, warning, search, and aggro.
TamingSuspicion, trust, correct food, threat rules, feeding windows, bondable state, final bonding.
Owned progressionHunger, XP, levels, bond, commands, GUI, cargo, saddle, riding, combat, breeding, downed state.
Eggs and hatchlingsBreeding, egg items, egg placement, incubation, ownership on placement, hatching, hatchling restrictions, growth.
Hooligan villagesCold-coastal villages with adults, children, traders, defense, Great Hall, docks, houses, boats, catapult tower, offshore statues.
Gear and mobsViking weapons, round shield, bolas, Hiccup’s Dagger, dragon saddle, seagulls, crows, and HTTYD sheep.

What V1 does later

V1 expands the same systems. It does not mean different villagers or a totally different village system. It means more content layered onto the base V0.5 creates.

That can mean more dragons, more world content, more HTTYD 1 completeness, more assets, more structures, and deeper use of the same core ideas.

What V0.5 does not cover yet

Our intention with V0.5 is to release a proof of concept, giving our community a first glimpse into the playable progress we've made. As such, V0.5 will only include the most basic functions needed as a baseline for the mod — this means it will not include features such as full dragon genetics, genders, and inherited stats, as well as large-scale faction systems and later world expansions. This version will also only contain three of the dragons planned to be in the mod: the Night Fury, Deadly Nadder, and Gronckle.
